Introduction & Organizational Background
Relief Winds is a non-governmental organization (NGO) headquartered in Mogadishu, with sub-offices at the federal member states in Somalia, in Nairobi, and across-boarder coordination office at Dadaab refugee camps in Kenya, It was established in March 2011 by a group of Somali intellectuals who recognized the need for a community-based non- governmental organization to promote humanitarian relief efforts for those in need in the horn of Africa. This response followed prolonged droughts and diseases that had ravaged the region for many years, alongside communities’ growing inability to cope with the worsening humaniterian crisis. Relief Winds was founded to help build resilience and self- reliance, giving communities the tools to withstand future shocks.
The main objective of Relief Winds is to empower women and children economically & socially through self-sustaining livelihood models. Reliefwinds was formed to empower disaster affected and extremely poor families economically and enhance house-hold food security among them though supporting their involvement in livelihoods projects, regular cash transfer, empowering women, protecting livelihoods assets and reducing vulnerability to disaster affected communities.
The overall goal of Relief Winds is to improve the socio-economic condition of the community through creation of employment generation activities by forming an execution of grass roots level participation in rural/urban community with the assistance of national and international organization.
Relief Winds endeavors towards environment of sustained and self-reliant development for refugees, returnees, internally displaced persons (IDPs) and community. Relief Winds considers that the most significant economic trends in Somalia are Sustained Agricultural Production, Promotion of social services and development of private sector. Relief Winds participates the peace efforts and Youth development programs by participating local forums and reconciliation conferences. Beside the relief operation the Organization focuses the following thematic issues:

- Livelihood Improvement Through Agriculture Resources
- Livestock Restocking
- Human Right
- Gender and Environment & Peace Building as well as Youth Development Initiative
Relief Winds sought these programs will accelerate development of the rural / urban poor areas increase Employment opportunities, and reduce morbidity rates of the children. The main objectives for this Program were to increase food production amelioration of such social services as health education Between urban and rural areas, and reducing disparities in access to basic social services.
