Introduction & Organizational Background
Relief Winds is a non-governmental (NGO) humanitarian Organization with its head office in Mogadishu and Cross-border program coordination offices in Nairobi Kenya and Jijiga Ethiopia.it was established in March 2011 with active sustained humanitarian assistance operations kick off in 2017 in somalia . Relief Winds was formed by a group of somali intellectuals who at that time recognized the need to set up a community-based none governmental organization to promote the humanitarian relief efforts to help the needy people in South central regions of the country, following the prolong drought and diseases that had the ravaged the region for many years. And the increasing inability of communities to respond to the worrying humanitarian tragedy gripping the country and provide opportunities to with stand shocks to be resilient and self-reliant communities.
The main objective of Relief Winds is to empower women and children economically & socially through self-sustaining livelihood models. Relief Winds was formed to empower disaster affected and extremely poor families economically and enhance house-hold food security among them though supporting their involvement in livelihoods projects, regular cash transfer, empowering women, protecting livelihoods assets and reducing vulnerability to disaster affected communities.
The overall goal of Relief Winds is to improve the socio-economic condition of the community through creation of employment generation activities by forming an execution of grass roots level participation in rural/urban community with the assistance of national and international organization.
Relief Winds endeavors towards environment of sustained and self-reliant development for refugees, returnees, internally displaced persons (IDPs) and community. Relief Winds considers that the most significant economic trends in Somalia are Sustained Agricultural Production, Promotion of social services and development of private sector. Relief Winds participates the peace efforts and Youth development programs by participating local forums and reconciliation conferences.
