Introduction & Organizational Background
Relief Winds (ReW) is a non-governmental organization (NGO) established in March 2011 as a community based voluntary organization by a group of intellectuals who at that time recognized the need to set up a community based non-governmental organization (NGO) to promote the humanitarian relief efforts to help the needy people in South central regions of the country, following the prolong drought and diseases that had the ravaged the region for many years. And the increasing inability of communities to respond to the worrying humanitarian tragedy gripping the country by then, and to provide opportunities to withstand shocks and build resilient, self-reliant communities.
The main objective of Relief Winds is to empower women and children economically & socially through self-sustaining livelihood models; social protection interventions through safety net programs; emergency response and education and human skills empowerment; and the mobilisation of local resources to respond to shocks locally and efficiently.
Relief Winds empower disaster affected and extremely poor families economically and enhances household food security through supporting their involvement in livelihood projects, Education in micro-entrepreneurship programs empowering women, protecting livelihood assets and reducing vulnerability to disaster affected communities
The overall goal of Relief Winds Organisation is to improve the socio-economic condition of the community by generating employment through grassroots-level participation in rural/urban communities, with the assistance of national and international organizations. Relief Winds endeavors to create an environment of sustained, self-reliant development for rural-urban returnees and internally displaced people (IDPs) communities.Relief Winds considers the most significant economic trends in Somalia to be sustained agricultural production, the Promotion of social services, and the development of the private sector. Relief Winds also participates in the peace efforts and Youth Development programs by participating in local forums and reconciliation conferences
The Organisation focuses on the following thematic issues:

- Education & Protection
- Health & Nutrition, water sanitation and hygiene promotion
- – Emergency Response &Preparedness.
Relief Winds seeks these programs to accelerate the development of poor rural/urban areas, increase Employment opportunities, and reduce children’s morbidity rates. The main objectives of this Program were to increase food production, social services, such as health education, between urban and rural areas, and to reduce disparities in access to basic social services.

Mission Statement:
Create better conditions to enable the vulnerable communities in rural and urban areas improve their standard of living. Improve access to sustainable livelihood development programs that uphold dignity and enhance lives of people in poverty to help them to participate in the mainstream society.
Organizational Goals
¯ Facilitate and participate in humanitarian efforts with the international.
¯Community in all their efforts to accessibility to reach vulnerable groups in the Operational areas of the organization.¯Mobilize resources at grass roots level in order to enhance awareness on Peace Building, Human rights promotion and communities’ potentials as individuals and Groups.¯Support the needy and deserving Somali children in attaining basic Education in RW’s target areas.
¯To promote sustainable food security through improved crop production, Infrastructure rehabilitation, improved markets and market chain linking.¯To promote sanitation and health among Somali communities through provision of relevant infrastructure and communication initiatives.¯To support the needy and underserved communities in targeted areas through Provision of a minimum package of basic services.¯To rehabilitate and develop local productive assets including but not limited to water points, shallows and dams to improve access to clean and safe water in the region.¯To promote gender mainstreaming activities within our areas of operation, including gender equality and mitigating gender-based violence (GBVs).¯ Provide case management, including psychosocial support and medical care, for children with protection concerns.¯ Provide case management, including psychosocial support and medical care, for children with protection concerns.¯ Establish and strengthen Child Protection focal points in target schools. ¯ Conduct school safety audits to identify and mitigate CP and GBV risks (e.g., unsafe routes, poor infrastructure.
